LISTEN: Recording catches NJ police chief saying he'd 'like to kill' female town council president
Englewood Cliffs Police Chief Michael Cioffi (Screen cap).

A newly unearthed recording reveals that Englewood Cliffs Police Chief Michael Cioffi said that he would "like to kill" his own town council president, whom he also called a "b*tch." reports that the recordings of Cioffi were found during the discovery process of a lawsuit that the chief himself filed against the borough.

Attorney James Patuto, who has in the past represented Cioffi on disciplinary issues, defended his one-time client by saying that he was simply venting frustrations, while also noting that he could have destroyed the recordings if he'd truly meant anything nefarious by them.

The recordings show Cioffi regularly attacking Council President Carrol McMorrow, whom he calls "one hell of a b*tch" at one point.

The most potentially incriminating part of the recording, however, came when Cioffi seemed to fantasize about killing McMorrow. Specifically, the chief can be heard saying that he'd "like to kill her" and then citing the movie the Shawshank Redemption as a model for doing so, according to

"Just imagine, our chief of police, on duty, carrying a borough-issued gun, discussing with a borough employee whether or not ending my life would be worth it," McMorrow said of the recording. "I am extremely concerned about this conversation."
