Twelve people were killed at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California when a gunman opened fired on Wednesday.

During CNN's Anderson Cooper's Thursday show, he interviewed one of the victim's friends, Sarah Rose DeSon, who witnessed the shooting.

"I heard the gunshots, I remember looking over to see like what happened. I turned, I was near, kind of facing towards the entrance, and I saw the shooter with his gun drawn," she said.

"I ran for my life. I got out by the grace of God," she said adding that she would carry out her friend's legacy who passed. "I'm going to live my life for the both of us because he was an amazing man. He deserves to have his legacy live on. He did not deserve to die."

"I'm grateful that I have God on my side to help me out because this was something that you could never prepare yourself for. It taught me that life is precious and short," she said.
