CNN's John Avlon on Friday reported that the White House is in a "high degree of chaos" as the administration scrambles to craft a response to the yet-to-be-released Mueller report on Russian meddling in the 2016 elections.

"Basically they want to offer their counter facts, the alternative facts to whatever the Mueller report comes down with," Avlon said after anchor Poppy Harlow expressed surprise that the administration was nearly 100 pages into a response to an investigation that's ongoing.

"There is a high degree of chaos in the White House when it comes to their plan," he added, describing the Mueller report as "a known unknown".

"One quote from an unnamed White House source in the article that jumped out to me, 'this is like Jesus takes the wheel, but scarier,'" Avlon continued. "That's an indication of real chaos, not 'strategery' shall we say inside the White House waiting for this report to drop.
