On Tuesday, the Washington Post published an op-ed by former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in which the incoming Utah senator trashed President Donald Trump over his character.
Social media from the left and right was briefly united in scorn for Romney, with everyone from arch-conservative Jack Posobiec to progressive activist Jordan Uhl piling on to mock him.
Here’s a sampling of the best tweets.
2012: Seeks @realDonaldTrump‘s endorsement, gets it.
2016 (Mar.): Trashes Trump.
2016 (Nov.): Crawls to Trump, asks to be Sec’y of State.
2018: Seeks Trump’s backing for Senate, gets it.

Mitt Romney (D-UT):
•bff’s with John McCain
•buddy-buddy with Jeff Flake
•Republican In Name Only
•twice-failed Presidential candidate
All the traits of an out-of-touch, hypocritical loser who lied to his constituents.

Never forget how low Mitt Romney was willing to go for a job working for Trump. pic.twitter.com/PpQEmYkX15

Sure Mitt Romney blows in the wind, what’s interesting is what way he sees that wind blowing today.

Where is the commentary telling Mitt Romney to go away and take up knitting?

Romney is nauseating talking about how he hoped Trump would do better. Only an idiot would think anything good could result, even cutting taxes when we need revenue.

Mitt Romney energetically sought Trump’s endorsement at the height of the racist birther campaign and brushed off Trump’s racism because he needed the votes

The truth is @MittRomney lacked the ability to save this nation. @realDonaldTrump has saved it. Jealously is a drink best served warm and Romney just proved it. So sad, I wish everyone had the courage @realDonaldTrump had. https://t.co/mbxoTqbSX6

Mitt Romney is a snake.
He groveled on his knees before Trump, begging first to be Secretary Of State and then for his endorsement of his campaign for Senate, just to stab him in the back.
He’ll fit right into the DC Swamp.

Romney did find some support, from outgoing Arizona senator and fellow Mormon Jeff Flake (R-AZ).
A thoughtful piece by incoming Senator Romney. https://t.co/pKO0wXgbLw
