Martin Luther King III said on Monday that his father would condemn President Donald Trump’s government shutdown because it leaves people hungry and unable to pay their bills.
“Here’s where he would be,” King told TMZ. “He would be most concerned about workers who are unemployed because the government is shut down, because the president is focused on a wall, which maybe is needed — but is that more important that making sure people can make ends meet?”
“It’s inhumane,” he added. “People can’t eat, people can’t pay their healthcare bills, people can’t buy prescriptions, people can’t pay their mortgages, people can’t get car loans. That is unconscionable.”
According to King, his father would be “challenging” leaders to exhibit better behavior.
