Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is now under investigation by the Florida Bar after he appeared to intimidate Michael Cohen right before his Congressional testimony in a tweet.
“If rules have been violated, The Florida Bar will vigorously pursue appropriate discipline by the Florida Supreme Court. The Florida Bar takes its responsibility of regulating lawyer conduct very seriously,” spokesperson Francine Walker said in a statement to The Daily Beast.
Walker said that the Bar is “quite aware of [Gaetz’s] comments…and we have opened an investigation.”
On Tuesday, Gaetz tweeted out about Cohen’s wife and other personal relationships. He was scrutinized and his tweet was seen as “witness intimidation.”
Gaetz later denied that it was not intimidation and instead said that it was “witness testing.”
Speaker, I want to get the truth too. While it is important 2 create context around the testimony of liars like Michael Cohen, it was NOT my intent to threaten, as some believe I did. I’m deleting the tweet & I should have chosen words that better showed my intent. I’m sorry. https://t.co/Rdbw3sTQJD
