Dave Evans, a political reporter for WABC-TV in New York, is facing serious blowback on social media after he questioned Sen. Kamala Harris’ (D-CA) decision to eat fried chicken and waffles during a lunch with the Rev. Al Sharpton.
While posting a photo of Harris and Sharpton eating together on his Twitter account, Evans seemed to call out Harris for her culinary choices.
“Chicken & waffles. Seriously? For Kamala Harris & toast & bananas for [Sharpton],” he wrote.
As of this writing, Evans’ tweet had a ratio of 963 responses to just 33 likes, a sure sign that his tweet caused offense, whether he intended to or not.
Check out some of the reactions below.
Holy crap, Reverend Al Sharpton is vegan, so toast and bananas are what he’d eat. Are you saying all black people eat Chicken and Waffles? Or are you questioning the blackness of Kamala Harris?
And what exactly gives you the right to question anyone’s blackness, Dave?
