Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump's television defense attorney, pushed back against criticism of Attorney General Bill Barr during a Saturday night appearance with Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro.

The former mayor of New York City said criticism of Barr was unfounded.

"Because if you just look at Bill Barr and you listen to him and you look at his background, this looks like completely phony political garbage," he said.

"Somebody on there -- I don't know if it was Nadler or somebody else -- called him a political hack. That's ridiculous," he argued.

"He was confirmed unanimously when [George H.W. Bush] nominated him, should've been confirmed unanimously now," he argued.

"It was like 93 to 7, something crazy like that," Pirro claimed.

"Okay, so pretty close to unanimous," Giuliani replied.

The actual vote was 54 to 45.

Giuliani suggested that were it not for the media, Barr would be "getting praised today for having restored a sense of law, justice, and sanity to what had become a media circus."
