At a House Appropriations hearing this week, IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig revealed that there are no rules preventing the release of President Donald Trump's tax returns to Congress even if he is under audit.

"If anybody's tax return is under audit, is there a rule that would prohibit that taxpayer from releasing it?" Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA) asked Rettig on Tuesday.

"No," Rettig replied.

Using a decades-old law, House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) has requested several years worth of Trump's tax returns from the Treasury. The White House has vowed to fight the request.
