Trump-loving evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr. drew widespread ridicule after he wrote a paranoid tweet about a “Southern Baptist Convention Deep State” that’s trying to harm Christianity.
Falwell on Tuesday morning ignited a feud with Russell Moore, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, in which he accused his fellow Christian leader of being part of “the SBC deep state regime trying to subvert the will of the church members.”
My good friend @jerryvines just told me Dr. Adam Greenway is a wonderful man and not part of the @drmoore SBC deep state regime trying to subvert the will of the church members! So glad to hear this news! @toddstarnes https://t.co/ra7vCnutj9

Given the way that Falwell’s talking points echo President Donald Trump’s own ramblings about a “deep state” of government officials out to undermine his presidency, Falwell’s tweet opened him up to brutal ridicule.
Check out some of the reactions below.
@drmoore is a wonderful, biblically sound Christian. It is no surprise to me that you feel challenged by him, as you should be. I am thankful for Russ Moore’s voice and his work on the church’s behalf.

This is divisive. Why not go and be reconciled with your brother, working out your differences amongst yourselves. The bride of Christ isn’t politics, and we are called to love one another.

And Christians wonder while so many are turning from their faith. Apostates and conmen abound in the American church. Especially the SBC.ADVERTISEMENT
