On Sunday, Vice President Mike Pence gave a commencement address at Liberty University, warning students that they faced discrimination for their Christian worldview.
“Some of the loudest voices for tolerance today have little tolerance for traditional Christian beliefs,” Pence said. “As you go about your daily life, just be ready because you’re going to be asked not just to tolerate things that violate your faith, you’re going to be asked to endorse them. You’re going to be asked to bow down to the idols of the popular culture.”
Writing in Esquire, columnist Charles Pierce noted the irony of Pence’s statements.
“If there’s a more conspicuous combination of snowflake and drama queen in American politics than Mike Pence, I don’t want to pass the collection plate to him,” Pierce wrote.
He concludes that Pence’s melodramatic advice is hardly reality based.
“I don’t think any of the cherub-faced Liberty U. grads have anything to worry about at the local multiplex, or from Joe Biden. Have a good summer, kids, and don’t worry about Mike Pence,” he concludes.
