Walz, Vance resume hostilities after courteous debate

Tim Walz and J.D. Vance took victory laps Wednesday after locking horns in their US vice presidential debate, with the civil tone of the televised clash largely absent back on the campaign trail.

Vance, who has earned a reputation as an aggressive, bombastic defender of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, surprised pundits with a cordial, policy-focused performance in Tuesday's CBS News debate in New York.

Trump's dark route in search of election victory

For Donald Trump, patriotism is chief among virtues, yet his love of country is tempered by an apocalyptic vision of a nation plundered by criminal migrants, beset by rampant inflation and brought low by the forces of liberalism.

"We are a nation in decline," he declares with metronomic regularity as he vies to lead a country experiencing plunging crime and an economic boom, having led the world in the recovery from the pandemic.

Michigan reporter confronts Vance: 'Why did you not answer the question last night?'

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) was confronted by a Michigan reporter during visit to the Great Lake State Wednesday, about a question the 2024 vice presidential nominee dodged during his debate against Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz Tuesday night.

Referring to Donald Trump's ploy to overturn the 2020 election — which included the January 6 attack on the US Capitol — Walz said during his debate against Vance: "This was a threat to our democracy in a way that we had not seen. And it manifested itself because of Donald Trump’s inability to say, he is still saying he didn’t lose the election. I would just ask that. Did he lose the 2020 election?"
