'Both can't be true': Trump busted over excuse for ducking second Harris debate

Appearing on CNN early Sunday morning, longtime journalist Lynn Sweet poured cold water on Donald Trump's excuse for staying away from a second debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Saturday morning, the Harris campaign announced it had agreed to a second debate, this one to be on CNN after appearing previously with the former president on ABC which went poorly for Trump.

Speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon, Trump told the crowd that it made no sense to debate again because it's "too late."

Specifically, he claimed, "She’s done one debate, I’ve done two, it’s too late to do another. I’d love to, in many ways, but it’s too late, the voting is cast, the voters are out there.”

Speaking with CNN's Amara Walker, Sweet needled the former president for speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

"The first debate in 2020 was September 29th, the second was in October," she dryly explained. "The whole point of it debate is to make it possible for you to be elected president of the United States, it's not for entertainment value or any other calculation, it doesn't matter who gets the last word."

'Wanted to crawl under a table!' Trump takes on Oprah in late-night attack

Donald Trump took a shot at Oprah Winfrey on his Truth Social platform late Saturday night, saying she is not the woman he once knew after watching her sit-down interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Last week the highly influential Winfrey sat down and peppered Harris with questions that elicited a few headline-making answers, particularly Harris admitting she would shoot an intruder in her home if she had to, and that apparently got under Trump's skin.

On Truth Social late Saturday, he wrote, "A long time ago, Oprah Winfrey asked me to do her last Network Television Show. The final week of her show was a big deal, and it was my honor, with my family, to do it. When I watched her interview yesterday with a woman who is destroying, through her complete and total incompetence, America, I couldn’t help but think this isn’t the real Oprah, this isn’t a person that wants millions of people, from prisons and mental institutions, and terrorists, drug dealers, and human traffickers, from all over the World, pouring into our Country."

He then added, "Kamala looked really foolish, couldn’t answer the simplest of questions on Inflation, the Cost of Goods, or our very porous and dangerous Border - No leader there, and Oprah just wanted to crawl under a table! Comrade Kamala Harris is mentally unfit to be President. She knows it, and so does everyone else!"

'Unreal': J.D. Vance's bid to clarify admission about 'creating stories' backfires

J.D. Vance on Saturday attempted to explain away his recent claim that he's willing to "create stories" about Haitian immigrants eating Ohio residents' pets, because it draws attention to real issues, but it didn't go over very well.

Donald Trump's pick for vice president recently said in an interview with CNN, "If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that's what I'm going to do, Dana." One Republican lawmaker was later shut down on the same network for attempting to defend Vance's controversial remarks.

Pollster accused of 'nincompoopery' after pushing Harris for Fox News debate against Trump

GOP pollster Frank Luntz on Saturday was hit with a barrage of criticism after he questioned why Vice President Kamala Harris wouldn't debate Donald Trump on Fox News.

How the Harris campaign aims to beat Trump in NC — without mentioning the Robinson scandal

North Carolina's 16 Electoral College votes could help provide the crucial difference in which party crosses the 270-vote threshold this November. And Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign has unveiled a strategy to put the state back in the Democratic column for the first time since 2008.

According to a recent Politico report, the Harris campaign has outlined how to defeat former President Donald Trump by tying him to Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson. Though while Robinson has been having to answer for numerous posts he allegedly made on an adult website — including posts pining for a return of chattel slavery and praising Adolf Hitler — the vice president is instead keeping its attacks focused on policy.
