'Cracking under that stress': CNN conservative nose dives as he tries to spin Trump debate

A Republican strategist's attempt to blame former President Donald Trump's disastrous debate performance on ABC News moderators and defend his mental faculties blew up in face on CNN Friday morning.

Conservative Scott Jennings fielded tough questions from anchor Jim Acosta about Trump's decision to "back down" from a second debate against Vice President Kamala Harris — and his repetition of strange conspiracy theories — as panelist Paul Begala, a liberal political commentator, looked on with a wide smile.

Trump flunked the Reagan test and now America knows 'he's nuts': ex-GOP insider

Heading into a pivotal presidential debate with President Jimmy Carter in 1980, then-candidate Ronald Reagan worked to address his biggest vulnerability: Namely, that he could come off as too extreme for American voters.

As former Republican insider David Frum writes on X, Reagan went out of his way to project calm and evenhandedness in his debate with Carter in order to dispel notions that he was the same right-wing ideologue who years earlier had railed against the dangers of Medicare.

'She wins either way': Strategist says Harris has upper hand on Trump debate negotiations

Donald Trump essentially put himself in a no-win situation by already backing out of a second debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, according to former Barack Obama aide Van Jones.

The former president has declared that he won't face off again with Harris, who told supporters in North Carolina that voters deserved a second debate, and Jones said Trump's decision put Harris in a strong position should the Republican nominee change his mind.

'The moment' Harris threw Trump 'off his game' singled out by amused former RNC official

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele offered up his take on the Tuesday presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and marveled how the VP put the ex-president on his heels so quickly.

Speaking with co-hosts Willie Geist and Mika Brzezinski, the former RNC chief dryly noted that Trump is attempting to spin his debate loss into a win and that nobody — outside of his rabid fans — is buying it.

"Yeah. When you come out and try to frame this the way Donald Trump is framing it after we saw what we saw, right?" he smirked. "It's not like this was one of those things you only heard on radio or you just didn't tune in and missed it. No, a lot of people saw this."

"We know he's lying. We know he got, not just got stung, he got knocked down, and he got knocked down in such a way that he could not get up," he continued. "So basically what you have is the — to keep this boxing metaphor going — the guy on the mat looking up with one hand up in the air, trying to get up off the floor saying, 'I don't want anymore. No mas,' and it's very clear why."

"Because he recognized from the very beginning of that debate, and for me, Willie, it was the moment, she walked over and shook his hand," he explained. "She threw him off his game in that moment because he had no intentions of shaking her hand. He was not going to be the gentleman, to go to the center of the ring if you will, and shake your opponent's hand, and to begin the conversation."

"But she, she did him one better, went over to him, and introduced herself, Kamala Harris. And from that moment, he was not the same," he claimed. "She started off a little rocky, but she found her footing very quickly on issue after issue, and the only thing he was reduced to was talking about ducks and cats, and whining about the fact that, you know, she was lying about his crowd size."

'Case studies in delusion': GOP pollster buries formerly Trump-skeptical Republicans

Republican pollster Sarah Longwell on Friday morning found herself incredulous that Republicans who were highly skeptical of former President Donald Trump are now expressing dismay that he's hanging out with hardcore racists such as Laura Loomer.

Writing on X, Longwell slammed some of her former political allies who seemingly believe that they can manipulate Trump away from embracing far-right extremists despite the fact that he has made a habit of doing so for nearly a decade now.

'Every single ally said he lost': Republicans said to 'universally' say Harris beat Trump

CNN's Kristen Holmes reported that Republican operatives "universally" believe Donald Trump lost this week's debate with Kamala Harris, even though he insists he won.

Six House Republicans throw a wrench in Trump plan to block a Harris win

If he loses the 2024 presidential election, former President Donald Trump will likely lobby House Republicans to refuse to certify the results.

This was not as much of a problem in 2020 when Democrats held the majority of seats, but with Republicans now holding a narrow majority, it could become a legitimate issue.

'That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!' MSNBC host flips out on Harris critics

On Friday morning MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski angrily pushed back at critics of Vice President Kamala Harris and snapped at voters who don't feel a woman can be president of the United States.

Using an upcoming segment with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as a jumping-off point, Brzezinski made the point that the November election pits a highly qualified Harris against "psychopath" Trump.

"I think a lot of women across America were proud to be women when they watched Kamala Harris on the debate stage; it was her moment, she took it, she nailed it," she began. "It's just funny to me to hear that it's even an issue for some people. I know it may be: 'Oh, Kamala Harris is a woman of color, she's a woman. Are Americans ready?' I immediately think, are they ready? What, are they ready for a psychopath? Are they ready for someone who wants to use the government to commit retribution against all of his opponents for no reason at all? Who wants to destroy our democracy? That's not an exaggeration. That's not rhetoric. That's what he said. That's what he has been doing."

After stating, "Donald Trump will make sure that his first presidency looks like a walk in the park," she continued, "Are we ready for a woman? That's not the question, I think, that should be asked,"

"It's like, are we ready to have — I'm sorry, I just haven't spoken to experts, but someone who seems to have psychotic tendencies running our government, who has plans to do things that are very counter to our democracy, and has already hurt women terribly, monstrously; already, happening now in this country."

"Are we ready for that? That's the question," the MSNBC host added. "I don't want to hear, 'Are we ready for a woman?' That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! That's what's gotten us here!"
