'Panic move': GOP swing state mailer tries to stop Trump's bleeding from Project 2025

If there is any question about whether the Heritage Foundation's controversial Project 2025 is having an impact on the 2024 presidential race, a recent mailer from the Michigan Republican Party suggests that it very much is.

Huffington Post journalist and Michigan resident Jonathan Cohn on Twitter flagged a mailer he received from the Michigan GOP that tries to distance former President Donald Trump from Project 2025, an initiative that aims to radically expand presidential powers by stripping away independence from government agencies and putting them under the direct control of the Oval Office.

'His own worst enemy': 'Discombobulated' Trump said to be proving Harris' attack line

Republicans have been begging Donald Trump to stick to the issues instead of personally attacking Kamala Harris, but CNN's Maria Cardona said the former president will only prove Kamala Harris' most devastating attack.

CNN conservative Shermichael Singleton conceded that Harris had delivered an effective speech introducing herself to voters, but he insisted the former president still had an opportunity to turn things around after the vice president took over the campaign from president Joe Biden.

Trump's most 'embarrassing' attack on 'Coach Walz' singled out by sports analyst

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," popular sports analyst Pablo Torre explained how the Democratic Party, in major part because of the Vice Presidential nomination bestowed upon Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), has stolen football away from Republicans as an appeal to voters.

Noting the overwhelming influence football plays in American culture, Torre claimed Democrats, by focusing on the Minnesota Democrat's tenure as a high school football coach, have taken something away from Donald Trump and led to an unforced blunder by the former president on Thursday night.

CNN panel gangs up on GOP strategist for dumping on Kamala Harris' acceptance speech

CNN's Scott Jennings conceded that Kamala Harris effectively introduced herself to voters in her acceptance speech, but his fellow panelists jumped all over his claims that Donald Trump remains in a strong position heading into next month's debate.

The conservative commentator credited the vice president for her improved political skills and agreed the Democratic National Convention had been a success, but Jennings argued that she did not accept responsibility for the attacks Republicans have leveled at her tenure alongside president Joe Biden.

Morning Joe panel laughs at Trump meltdown on Fox after Harris' big acceptance speech

As part of a postmortem on the wildly popular 2024 Democratic National Convention that concluded Thursday night in Chicago, the entire "Morning Joe" panel laughed at Donald Trump's "desperate" phone-ins to conservative outlets to complain about how he was portrayed.

Late Thursday, the former president called into both Fox News and Newsmax, and his Fox call was littered with him appearing to be fumbling with his phone which eventually led to the call be concluded early.

On Friday morning, former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) explained why the convention was so effective at getting under Trump's skin.

"Should I confess now that the thing I enjoyed the most about this convention, that it was so good at all the stuff that bugs Donald Trump," she laughed. "The production values were off the charts, everything looked great, the timing was seamless, there was no big drama anywhere, there were no tensions."

She then added, "We had more stars than he had. We had better ratings than he had; all the stuff that he thinks are important, they did really well this week. I confess that kind of gives me a grin."

"Well he desperately, after Vice President Harris' speech, was desperately calling into TV networks, sometimes appeared to be sitting on some of the keys of his phone while he spoke," co-host Wille Geist pointed out as the entire panel could be heard laughing.

"Called Fox News, they kind of cut him off. Called into Newsmax," he added.

Harris just cut Trump’s lead in half in one of the reddest states

Vice President Kamala Harris has been steadily outperforming former President Donald Trump in multiple battleground states and currently leads him in the latest national polls. But one recent poll shows she's making surprising gains even in ruby-red territory.

The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday that, according to the latest poll from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University, Harris is now within five percentage points of Trump among Texas voters, trailing by a 49-44 margin. The August poll is the first survey UH and TSU have taken since President Joe Biden exited the race last month and threw his endorsement behind Harris. In the last poll, Biden was down by nearly 10 points in the Lone Star State (49-40), suggesting Harris may make a competitive run for Texas' 40 electoral votes.
