'Not a very serious person': GOP insider claims J.D. Vance dragging Trump down

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Way Too Early" to talk about who Vice President Kamala Harris will pick as her running mate, expected to be announced next Tuesday, the former top adviser to ex-House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) briefly turned to Sen. J. D. Vance's drag on Donald Trump's election chances.

Speaking with host Sam Stein, Brendan Buck cut to the chase and claimed that Trump's hand-picked running mate from Ohio is "not a very serious person."

After explaining to the MSNBC host that a vice presidential pick's main qualification is to do no harm to the ticket and make voters like them, Buck said Vance is a failure on all counts.

Before suggesting that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) should be at the top of Harris' list, he changed the subject to the embattled Vance.

"On the other side you have J.D. Vance who I think is demonstrating himself to be not a very serious person, or at least not mature person enough at this point and having a contrast with someone with real governing experience and has that competence is really important beyond the standard that something could be happen and you need to be ready," explained. "So that's obviously the most important thing and then delivering your message."

He later added, "The last thing you want is your V.P. candidate to be a distraction. A V.P. candidate has two jobs: introduce yourself and promote the top of the ticket and attack the other person. That's it. And if you're drawing attention to yourself in a negative way, then you're doing a disservice to the ticket."

A potential VP pick could hurt Harris’ chance of defeating Trump: analysis

Washington Post associate editor Karen Tumulty last week submitted that Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) would be the "smartest selection" to be Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, as he "would help inoculate her in areas where she is likely to be vulnerable" — such as immigration.

The New Republic's Timothy Noah, on the other hand, believes Harris would benefit from staying away from selecting the Arizona senator.

Kamala Harris channels rapper Quavo to slam Trump: 'He does not walk it like he talks it'

Vice President Kamala Harris addressed a packed crowd at her Atlanta rally Tuesday night, alongside rap stars Quavo and Megan Thee Stallion — and even quoted Quavo as she attacked former President Donald Trump for talking out of both sides of his mouth on the border security issue.

Harris, who for much of President Joe Biden's administration was tasked with diplomacy to address the root causes of migrant surges at the border, went on offense over what Trump has long planned to be a key policy issue for his own campaign, by reminding voters that when Biden and Senate lawmakers came together on a bipartisan border security deal, Trump worked behind the scenes to ensure it died in the cradle.

Vance tries to flip the script on Harris following leaked 'sucker punch' audio

Former Pres. Donald Trump’s running mate, U.S. Sen. JD Vance, unleashed a litany of attacks Tuesday in Southern Nevada against Vice Pres. Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s likely presidential nominee.

Vance’s maiden visit to Nevada coincided with audio leaked to the Washington Post from one of Vance’s meetings this weekend with fundraisers, in which the candidate calls the Democratic Party’s switch from Biden to Harris “a political sucker punch. The bad news is that Kamala Harris does not have the same baggage as Joe Biden because whatever we might have to say, Kamala is a lot younger. And Kamala Harris is obviously not struggling in the same ways that Joe Biden did.”
