J.D. Vance gets dropped by German publisher after becoming Trump's running mate
J.D. Vance's book "Hillbilly Elegy" has been dropped by it's German publisher.
According to Newsweek, the Berlin-based publisher Ullstein will no longer produce the translation of the senator's book after he became Donald Trump's running mate.
Vance represents a "demagogic, exclusionary policy," the publisher said, according to the Der Spiegel report. His "political change" prompted the new decision.
"At the time of publication, the book made a valuable contribution to understanding the disintegration of U.S. society," the publisher's spokesperson said, according to a Google translation of the site. "Vance had offered an authentic portrayal of growing up in the impoverished white working class, and he also repeatedly distanced himself from Donald Trump at the time."

"He is now officially acting on his side and represents an aggressive, demagogic, exclusionary policy," the Ullstein publishing house stated.
It concluded that it will not be renewing its contract with Vance.
When the book was published in 2016, Vance was a little-known Ivy League graduate from Kentucky who had just changed his name from J.D. Hamel to Vance.
Eight years later, Vance moved from a Trump critic to a true MAGA believer, and his book sales are climbing among international audiences.
Vance once referred to Trump as "America's Hitler." He now says he's changed his mind.
The Der Spiegel report stated that only the English version is seeing sales in Germany. The German language version is now considered "out of print," and the publisher has no intention of offering it again.
The Texas company, YES Publishing, picked up the rights to the book, and co-founder Oliver Kuhn thinks the German translation will be an immediate bestseller, said Der Spiegel. The catalog from the publisher includes self-help and popular science.
