According to a scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies, the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump over a week ago has given a boost to Christian nationalists and far-right evangelicals who believe the former president is the chosen one as promised in various prophecies.

In a column for Politico, Matthew D. Taylor, an expert in religious extremism noted that it was just mere hours after the shooting in Pennsylvania was reported that evangelicals latched on to Trump's survival as proof of his divinity.

Fox News host Eric Shawn pushed back on Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) after he claimed that there could have been a "conspiracy" to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

During a Sunday interview on Fox News, Shawn asked Burchett for his theory on the security lapses that allowed the shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

During an appearance on ABC's "This Week," House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was put on the spot by host Martha Raddatz for attacks Donald Trump made on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in Michigan Saturday night.

Following a week where Johnson praised the former president for his message of "unity" at the Republican National Convention, the former president tossed it all aside on Saturday night, labeling Biden as "sick, weak and pathetic" and adding "stupid" into the mix before calling Harris "crazy" and "nuts."

On Sunday morning the ABC host ran clips of the former president speaking and pressed Johnson, "Has he [Trump] missed an opportunity to promote unity?"

"No, he hasn't," the GOP leader responded. "Look, there is campaign rhetoric on both sides. There has been — it was less than a week and a half ago when President Biden said we ought to put Donald Trump in the crosshairs. Effectively, he said a bullseye. Now he has retracted that statement and Trump has said some things about unity that President Biden has said, but we are in the midst of a heated campaign."

"But you yourself have said the discourse 'should not be personal or targetting people'" Raddatz shot back. "Have you just changed your mind? Is this the campaign you want?"

"No. No, I articulate things in a different way and Donald Trump as well," Johnson protested. "But his grievances as you said, there have been so many attacks."

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) floated possible conspiracy theories over the weekend after former President Donald Trump was shot in the ear.

During a Sunday appearance on Fox News, Johnson suggested that Trump's life was saved because he turned to look at a chart that was first given to the former president by the Wisconsin senator.

Reacting to a report from Politico that pointed out big holes in Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance's resume when it comes to dealing with how the government functions, former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele expressed surprise the GOP approved of Donald Trump's running mate.

According to the Politico report, "By historic standards, Vance has shockingly little [experience]. No experience balancing a state budget, overseeing disaster response, or wrestling with the legal and moral dimensions of the death penalty. He hasn’t commanded a state National Guard or managed a federal agency or Cabinet office. He’s less than a third into his first six-year Senate term."

That led MSNBC "The Weekend" co-host Michael Steele to wonder why no one is talking about Vance's deficiencies.

After it was pointed out President Joe Biden's campaign plans to paint Vance as "extreme," Steele added, "I think in addition to extreme, I think there's a big question about experience, I mean, this guy is the least experienced individual to hold the office of nominee for the vice presidency and yet no one seems to be talking about that."

'He will be a vice president to a guy who will be 80 years old or 79 years old in a year and over the course of the next four years is he prepared to step in to run the united— you know, the United States?" he asked.

He later noted Vance's selection did lead to some "friction" among party insiders and added, "There was not a uniform or united view that he should be the choice, but Donald Trump wanted someone that he could control and he got it."

Following Trump's speech at the RNC, Trump's wife walked out on stage, where the two shared an air kiss.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) claimed without evidence that the man who allegedly shot former President Donald Trump was "obviously working with someone."

During a Sunday interview on Fox News, Luna said she planned to press Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle about the background details of Thomas Crooks, the alleged gunman.

Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy said one of her daughters was facing fears of a right-wing plan called Project 2025.

During a Fox & Friends Weekend discussion, host Pete Hegseth noted that Trump had disavowed the plan created by dozens of former Trump advisers and officials at the conservative Heritage Foundation.

A falsified post on X claiming Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was growing back his ear went viral over the weekend.

Although it wasn't clear who created the fake tweet, one post had been viewed 1.5 million times.
