2024 Elections

Trump said Obama is the current president during a New Hampshire campaign event

The pundit editorial class — as well as too many political reporters — focus on President Joe Biden’s age. What they don’t do is point out that Donald Trump is only 3.5 years younger. Nor do the New York Times, Wall Street Journal or Washington Post — or any TV news show — ever feature a quote from a Trump campaign event that’s more than a few words. That’s because after Trump strings words together, they look and sound like they were the output of a random number generator. At a campaign rally in Claremont, New Hampshire, Saturday afternoon, Trump said that Barack Obama was president. Not tha...

Republicans will keep losing because they are running to the right: ex-GOP staffer

The Republican party is going to keep losing elections if those in power continue to pursue the same strategy of running toward Trump and the MAGA right, according to a former GOP staffer.

Kurt Bardella, a former staffer for Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe and Republican Congressman Darrell Issa, appeared on MSNBC's Ayman to discuss the recent elections in which GOPers suffered some devastating losses.

Trump's mental stability increasingly an issue in 2024 presidential campaign: report

Donald Trump's mental stability is being used against him more and more in the run-up to the 2024 election, including by his own fellow Republican rivals, according to a report.

Trump, who appeared to confuse Barack Obama for Joe Biden at a rally on Saturday in New Hampshire, is taking fire from all angles on the issue of whether he's mentally fit to take the president's office again. President Joe Biden has already been hammering Trump on this issue, despite Biden himself getting his own criticisms for purported age-related decline.

'He's a disgrace to America': Trump attacks 'deranged' Jack Smith at rally

Donald Trump on Saturday once again lashed out against special counsel Jack Smith, issuing comments that would likely be barred under a now-paused gag order.

Trump attacked Smith in connection with the indictment the prosecutor brought against the former president for purportedly attempting to subvert the 2020 election after his own electoral defeat. Trump noted that he's seeking a new judge in that case, as well as a move outside of Washington, D.C.

'Really bad leaders': Trump takes shots at retired general in Veteran's Day speech

Donald Trump on Saturday thanked the veterans attending his New Hampshire rally, but then proceeded to attack a familiar target: General Milley.

Trump veered off course from his stump speech several times at his rally, even appearing to confuse Barack Obama for Joe Biden at one point. He also took numerous shots at the retired general named Mark Milley, who said he had to restrain the former president's worst impulses throughout his time in office.

Trump is prepared to unleash the 'crazies' on the country: Rick Wilson

During an appearance on MSNBC's "The Katie Phang Show," former GOP campaign consultant and current Lincoln Project founder Rick Wilson raised the red flag that a re-elected Donald Trump will plunge the country into chaos if he is re-elected in 2024.

Speaking with the host, Wilson noted the former president's recent comments where he suggested he could use the government to go after his political enemies.

According to Wilson, voters who fear Trump should take him at his word.

"He is going to use the power of the state," Wilson explained. "All my libertarian friends should be paying attention: the power of the state to achieve his personal, political vengeance on people who he believes have wronged him."

"This is not America, to quote David Bowie," he continued. "This is something much darker and much different and much more dangerous. We have to pay attention to it, we have to listen to it."

"If he's back he's going to cause enormous damage in this country to individuals, groups, political opponents at every level and every scale," he added. "The people around him this time will not be restrained by grown-ups or adults or establishment Washington types. It going to all be the crazies. They are going to go absolutely wild with this guy, and he's going to let them do it."

Republicans in Democratic House districts beg far-right colleagues to shut up

After a disappointing round of 2023 off-year elections, Republicans in Democratic districts are begging their far-right colleagues to shut up about fringe abortion laws, the New York Times reported Friday.

The 2023 election results Tuesday revealed to 18 Republicans, who claimed blue districts in 2022, that voters aren't happy about the Supreme Court ruling that eliminated abortion rights.

Melania MIA from Trump's side: 'They might as well live in another country'

A pair of male Washington Post reporters revealed in a 1,000-word investigative report that Melania Trump is no longer standing by her man. But more than that, she's missing in action from the Palm Beach life she once embraced.

Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt revealed recently from one of his many conversations with Donald Trump that the ex-president asked his third wife to prance around the Mar-a-Lago pool in a bikini "so all the other guys could get a look at what they were missing." But it appears the misplaced Melania isn't doing much by the pool or around town, at rallies, or in one of the many courtrooms in which her husband has been arraigned.

'Donald Trump's worst nightmare' still awaits him: Joe Scarborough

Reflecting on the election results from Wednesday when Ohio voters added abortion rights to the state constitution, "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough claimed it will cast a a dark cloud over Donald Trump's third presidential run.

Noting the number of conservative-controlled states where voters have also affirmed a woman's right to make personal healthcare decisions for themselves without government interference, the MSNBC host called it "Donald Trump's worst nightmare."

In particular, he noted Trump's repeated boasts about "terminating" the right to an abortion after placing three conservative justices on the Supreme Court — all of whom voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

"I think Joe Biden touched on that's going to really give us insight on what we're going to see the next year," the MSNBC host told his panel, "and certainly going to be Donald Trump's worst nightmare. One is abortion. Donald Trump: I killed abortion. I killed Roe v. Wade. I'm the one that made sure Roe v. Wade ended."

"He's been saying it nonstop, and this lie that somehow now he's trying to tack to the middle, only in front of certain audiences. He's still saying it out there, and it's on tape so much," he continued. "I think -- I think it's going to be like a fighter in the middle of the ring and I think they're going to keep going to the body with it and keep pounding people talking about the fact that Donald Trump's proud of the fact that he's the guy responsible for 10-year-old girls having to flee the state of Ohio after they were raped by an illegal immigrant."

"That's happened across America, and women have been facing horrific health care choices, bleeding out with doctors going, 'We can't do anything,'" he added.

"Why can't they do anything? Why can't they take care of women who are bleeding out, who need help?" he asked rhetorically. "Because of Donald Trump — and Donald Trump's admitted it."

RNC warns 2024 contenders to steer clear of far-right evangelical forum in Iowa

The Republican National Committee has warned 2024 presidential candidates that speaking at the Family Leader’s Thanksgiving forum will prevent them from participating in future Republican presidential debates. But the Family Leader plans to move forward with the event, staff said Thursday, with at least three candidates who have confirmed they will attend.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy have all told the Family Leader that they plan to be at the Des Moines event Nov. 17, which advertises itself as a space for presidential candidates to “gather around the table to have a moderated, friendly and open discussion about the issues that are most important to evangelical Americans today.”

Though it is not a debate, the Family Leader has set polling thresholds for participation, requiring candidates to have a Real Clear Politics polling average of 4% or more in national or Iowa polls by Nov. 1. Along with the three candidates planning to attend, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former President Donald Trump are eligible to participate, and have been invited, Drew Zahn, director of communications for the organization, said.

Trump lawyers claim judges have no authority to enforce 14th Amendment

During oral arguments this week, lawyers for former President Donald Trump argued that a Michigan challenge to his constitutional eligibility to appear on the ballot is invalid because judges don't have authority to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, The Messenger reported on Thursday.

"One of Trump's lawyers, Michael Columbo, said that the power to enforce the section of the amendment 'resides in Congress alone,' adding the section only applies to elected officials-to-be and not to candidates running for office," reported Aneeta Mathur-Ashton. "He added that the 'judicial review, if any, should occur only after the Electoral (College) and congressional processes have run their course,' arguing that those challenging Trump’s eligibility want to turn an after-the-fact 'Section 3 disqualification into a ballot access qualification'" — in other words, any case on this should be heard in 2025 after he hopes to have won the election.

Ron DeSantis' own higher education appointee says he lied in debate

Among the claims made in Wednesday's debate came from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who touted his quick action in defense of Israel.

"I already acted in Florida," DeSantis claimed. "We deactivated them. We're not going to use state tax dollars to fund jihad. No way. And what is Biden doing?"
