Right-wingers 'terrified' by MAGA defector's vision after 'Daddy cut them off'
There is a growing fear among some of President Donald Trump's most avid supporters that the America First movement will undermine the GOP in November to teach the president a lesson.
According to a report from Politico Playbook, while the White House is dismissing a conservative third-party challenge in 2028, there are legitimate concerns about damage being inflicted in the 2026 midterms.
Jeremy Boreing, co-founder of the far-right Daily Wire and one of former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson's most vocal critics, characterized Carlson's recent vision for the US as "terrifying."
"He's essentially saying the American order, the constitutional order, is over. To advance his agenda will require a kind of authoritarianism that is novel in America," Boreing told Politico Playbook.
Trump administration insiders worry the effort could become a tool for attacking the president and damaging Republicans in November. "Get just enough folks to stay home so we lose the House and the president gets destroyed," one Trump associate warned.
Laura Loomer, a Trump ally and another Carlson critic, warned conservatives are witnessing a concerted effort to humiliate a president they believe has betrayed them, explaining, "They view this as an opportunity to suppress the GOP vote, so that they can get revenge on Donald Trump."
Loomer characterized the broader group's motivation in personal terms. "They're mad that Daddy cut them off, and now they're trying to get back at Daddy by throwing a hissy fit before the midterms in an effort to get him to notice them and their outbursts," she told Politico while referencing figures including Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Joe Kent (R-WA).
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) blew off the criticism of the growing movement as a deflection from broken promises.
"It's a strategy for the Trump administration and Republicans at large to acknowledge that they have betrayed campaign promises," she scoffed.
