Following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) suggested that the head of the Secret Service was to blame because she was a "DEI initiative person."

Burchett was flanked by two rifles on Sunday while he spoke to Fox News about the shooting of the former president. He argued that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle was hired because of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

CBS reporter Robert Costa pushed back on CBS White House correspondent Ed O'Keefe after he suggested that Democrats were calling on President Joe Biden to drop out of the race following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

During a discussion on Face the Nation, host Margaret Brennan asked O'Keefe if Biden was changing his campaign plans following the shooting.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) dodged a question about heated political rhetoric from his fellow Republican senators following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

During a Sunday interview on NBC's Meet the Press, host Kristen Welker noted that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) argued that President Joe Biden had incited the shooting.

Fox News contributor Juan Williams reminded his colleagues that the man who allegedly attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump was a Republican.

"I mean, it's not only when you think about the president, former President Trump, but also the people in the audience, the people who died, and you understand the danger," Williams explained during a panel discussion on Fox News Sunday. "It just makes you feel like the country is, the level of political polarization in the country is at a danger point."

ABC host Martha Raddatz pushed back on Donald Trump supporters who blamed his attempted assassination on President Joe Biden.

During ABC's This Week program on Sunday, Raddatz noted that Sen. J.D. Vance has said Biden's campaign inspired the shooting attempt.

On Sunday morning, less than 24 hours after a Pennsylvania man attempted to assassinate Donald Trump, CNN host Kasie Hunt had to calm her panel down after a conservative guest tried to blame President Joe Biden for the shooting.

A very emotional Bryan Lanza, an advisor to Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, was deploring the state of affairs that he believes led to the shooting, when he started to suggest Democrats are to blame for increased tensions.

"Listen, it's all sides. I mean, just a couple of days ago, we heard President Biden in a conference call with his donors saying we need to put a target on President Trump, or that he was going to put the target on president Trump," Lanza stated. "Listen, Sarah Palin was wrong when Gabby Giffords was, an assassination attempt on her by putting the target on her and a bunch of other Democrats on the list and that sort of triggered somebody. President Biden was wrong talking about that language. The Washington Post is wrong, we're all guilty of this language. I'm guilty of that myself. I'm ashamed of it. You know, I'm shaking, I had to explain to my six-year-old son what an assassination attempt is."

"I had to explain that there are some people who use language and there are some people who are triggered whether it's the far-right or the progressive left that think the violence is the answer to where we are at this particular state," he continued. "Violence isn't the answer. I mean, I come from a rough neighborhood — violence only escalates. Like we need an off-ramp for this. Hopefully last night was the off-ramp. So we'll see what the convention brings up, but I think you're going to see a very, very defiant convention."

"The guy, [Trump] was just, you know, he's been targeted," he added. "We've been talking about this, the leftists fantasizing assassinations. You've got a major donor from the Democratic Party, if not the largest donor to the Democratic Party saying, he'd proudly be a martyr taking out Donald Trump."

That led former Hillary Clinton spokesperson Karen Finney to interrupt with, "Let's be very fair about that."

"The language was very, very — listen, there was an assassination attempt," Lanza shot back.

At that point, CNN host Hunt put up her hands and cautioned, " I would like to keep this as non-partisan as possible, okay? So we are going to stay in the realm of deploring the violence as you have."

President Joe Biden on Saturday condemned the shooting that erupted at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania and said that he was reaching out to his presumptive rival in the 2024 election to check on his wellbeing.

Speaking on Saturday evening shortly after Trump was whisked away from the rally by the Secret Service, Biden condemned political violence.
