Mike Johnson's new appointments compared to 'Bonnie and Clyde in charge of bank security'

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) tore into House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for allowing a pair of firebrand pro-Trump lawmakers — Reps. Scott Perry (R-PA) and Ronny Jackson (R-TX) — to serve on the House Intelligence Committee in a segment of MSNBC's "All In" on Thursday evening.

Both members, who were reportedly appointed at the direct request of former President Donald Trump, have a lengthy track record of pushing election conspiracy theories, and Perry in particular was actively involved in efforts to help Trump overturn the election results — despite the fact that one of the Intelligence Committee's main responsibilities is tracking foreign election interference. Moreover, in a huge departure from standard decorum, Johnson didn't even notify Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) he would be making the appointments.

'You know better!' CNN's Anderson Cooper scolds Trump associate on Mar-a-Lago raid claim

CNN's Anderson Cooper clashed with David Urban, a former strategist to former President Donald Trump, over the erstwhile president's ongoing and escalating attacks against federal law enforcement as he continues to be the focus of multiple criminal cases.

In particular, the debate got fierce during the discussion of how Trump has pushed a conspiracy theory that FBI agents were prepared to assassinate him during their search of Mar-a-Lago for missing highly classified national defense documents — even though in fact the language in question detailing the FBI's policy on deadly force is a standard protocol that is part of any search they conduct against anyone.

Former President Donald Trump made a bizarre remark at his rally with the far-right student group Turning Point USA in Arizona on Thursday, seeming to imply during a rant about border security that he thinks there's probably a criminal from Venezuela hiding somewhere in that very room.

"Is there any criminal from Venezuela in the room?" said Trump in the footage, originally captured by @Acyn. "Please raise your hand. There probably is, we just don't know about it." Trump ironically granted temporary legal status to Venezuelan nationals on his way out of office in 2021.

'Read the tea leaves': Ex-Trump lawyer says Cannon just signaled she might toss his case

A recent and surprising ruling from Florida federal court Judge Aileen Cannon suggests she's seriously considering dismissing charges against convicted felon Donald Trump, the former president's onetime lawyer argued Thursday.

Cannon's uncommon decision — allowing outside experts to speak in Trump's classified documents case at a hearing later this month — shows she's taking seriously claims that special counsel Jack Smith does not have the constitutional right to prosecute, Jim Trusty argued during a CNN appearance.

CNN's Bash laughs at Sean Hannity's failed attempt to 'toss Trump a lifeline'

Normally straightlaced CNN host Dana Bash was unable to keep a straight face before sharing a clip of Fox News host Sean Hannity doing all he could to allow Donald Trump to walk back comments about plans to use the government to go after his perceived enemies if he is re-elected.

In the interview, which was pre-taped and edited before being broadcast on the conservative network on Wednesday night, Hannity appeared to be leading a confused Trump by the hand to push back at his critics who are warning about coming retribution.

Introducing the clip, a smirking Bash stated, "Last night Trump was on with Hannity and Hannity was clearly trying to throw him a lifeline and it didn't look like Donald Trump was ready to grab it."

What followed was a clip of the Fox News host prompting the former president, "Focus on those that want people to believe you want retribution. That you will use the system of justice to go after your political enemies."

"So, number one, they're wrong," Trump replied. "It has to stop, because otherwise, we're not going to have a country. Look, when this election is over, based on what they've done. You have to do it. Look, I know what you want me to say something..." as Hannity interrupted and Trump spoke over him and added, "I don't want to look naïve."

'Sick and tired': MTG doubles down on blaming GOP for 'destroying our country'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia Republican who's had a habit of turning on her own party when she isn't spouting conspiracy theories, doubled down Thursday in blaming the Grand Old Party for "destroying our country."

Just a day after calling the Jan. 6 insurrection "an absolute setup" concocted by the Democrats, Greene appeared on One America News Network Thursday morning to blast her own party's efforts — or, rather, her perceived lack thereof — to hold the Biden administration accountable and impeach U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, who, she said, "basically issued a kill order for President Trump."
