'Fire the IRS agents': J.D. Vance suggests how Trump will pay for 'no tax on tips'
Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance suggested former President Donald Trump would "fire the IRS agents" to pay for his plan to eliminate taxes on tips.
At a rally in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Vance was asked how Trump would cover the shortfall in government funds if he implemented the so-called "no tax on tips" proposal.
"To answer your question, the details do matter, obviously, but I think that people overestimate the budgetary hit of no taxes on tips," Vance said. "Because, frankly, a lot of what we get out of taxing tips right now, a lot of what happens is that you have IRS agents harassing casino workers and servers and it costs a lot of money to harass middle-class people."
"Why not just give them their money back, fire the IRS agents, and we'll all be more prosperous, and Americans will have more money in their pockets," he added.

However, some are skeptical of the plan.
"Republicans had already been scrambling to figure out how to cover the cost of extending the 2017 [tax cuts] law, estimated at more than $4 trillion over 10 years, during a period of elevated interest rates and already swollen deficits," The New York Times reported this month.
"Mr. Trump's agenda overall could cost as much as $15 trillion over 10 years, according to the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, on top of the $22 trillion the United States is already expected to add to the debt over that time period."
