Alt-right rally in Portland declared a riot after right-wingers go on violent rampage

A rally in Portland, Oregon organized by Joey Gibson, who is running for U.S. Senate as a Republican in Washington state was declared a riot on Saturday night, the Oregonian reports.

Gibson is an extremist who holds "free speech rallies" to provoke Antifa and other leftists. Today's event, held near the site of the family-friendly rally opposing President Trump's immigration policies devolved after police told everyone to go home.

In a video posted by independent journalist Mike Bivins, one of the right-wingers appears to throw a heavy metal trash trash can lid at a what appears to be a much smaller woman.

At one point there was a brawl involving what appeared to be at least 100 people from both sides, throwing smoke bombs and then exchanging blows.

Other video from Bivins shows police firing tear gas, making arrests and right-wingers brandishing shields and wearing absurd costumes.

Bivins reported that a number of Proud Boys were arrested following the clashes.

The protests have been regular occurrences, taxing the city's resources as both sides are seemingly eager for violence.

A local weekly covering the protest reported hearing police officers discussing strategy at Starbucks, with one of the cops heard saying that the city should "just let them fight."
