Anti-gay preacher gets schooled by his bisexual sister-in-law: 'This is me being a true Christian'

A California woman shamed her pastor brother-in-law -- who responded to the Orlando gay nightclub massacre with a pair of anti-LGBT sermons.

Christina Peters said her relationship with her sister and brother-in-law, Pastor Roger Jiminez, became strained when she openly dated women, reported KOVR-TV.

“When I was dating women, I know their beliefs; wasn’t welcome in their house,” she said.

Peters, who is now married to a man and has children, said she's ashamed to admit Jiminez is a family member.

“It’s incredibly disgusting and shameful what he’s saying,” she said. “I was ashamed and didn’t want to claim him, didn’t want to acknowledge he was my family.”

The pastor of Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento made national news this week with a pair of sermons attacking the 49 people who died at Pulse nightclub as "sodomites" who deserved to die.

“The Bible does teach that homosexuality deserves the death penalty,” Jiminez said. “Leviticus 20:13 says that if a man lie with mankind like he does with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination and will surely be put to death. Romans 1 says that they which commit such things are worthy of death."

The pastor said the gunman also deserved to die, joining a list of Christians who said the government -- and not vigilantes -- should execute LGBT people.

Peters decided to publicly claim the pastor as a relative so she could shame him.

“I reject what he’s saying that it’s okay people have died, that it’s a safer place, but I can’t tell him what he should preach -- and he can’t say what I listen to,” Peters said.

Peters worried her brother-in-law's sermons could encourage additional violence against LGBT people -- so she decided to express her own religious beliefs.

“Just because his message shows hatred, doesn’t mean I can’t respond in love,” she said. “[I] still love him, don’t agree with him -- but this is me being a true Christian.”
