Biden impeachment push expected to 'dominate' Congress agenda for months: report

House Republicans plan to focus the bulk of their agenda on impeaching top Biden administration officials — and maybe even the president himself.

The GOP-led House will hear testimony in the coming months from homeland security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, attorney general Merrick Garland and FBI director Christopher Wray, and they're interested in calling David Weiss, the Donald Trump-appointed U.S. attorney who led the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, reported CNN.

“We’ve been investigating this failure at the southern border now for a little while," said Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), who chairs the Homeland Security Committee, "and now the House has asked us to add the president’s actions into this, and we’ll dig into that, too.”

House speaker Kevin McCarthy has signaled willingness to open an inquiry into Garland over an IRS whistleblower's claim that he interfered in the Hunter Biden case, and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tried to force a snap floor vote last week on impeaching President Joe Biden — which Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has repeatedly sought.

“I’ve talked to everyone here until I’m blue in the face for a long time about impeachment,” Greene said.

McCarthy has warmed to the idea of Cabinet impeachments after facing backlash from his right-wing flank for cutting a debt limit deal with the president, but some more moderate Republicans are uneasy with the new focus.

“Impeachment should be treated in the serious matter it deserves,” said Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE). “We’ve lowered the bar over the last four years, and it’s not healthy.”
