A Trump administration official walked out of a Washington basketball game under a wave of jeers after a clash in the stands.
Britt McHenry, a press adviser at the State Department, hurled a drink at a fellow spectator during the Washington Wizards' home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night, according to video obtained by TMZ and posted on Thursday.
The footage shows fans tossing rally towels toward McHenry as she climbed through the seats while boos followed her. She seemed to shrug off the hostility, waving and blowing kisses at the crowd as she left. Cameras later caught her in a heated exchange with a security guard who was steering her toward the exit.
People close to McHenry offered a different version of events. They told TMZ that fans seated behind her and a male companion had been making crude comments about model Winnie Harlow, who is engaged to Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma, a former Wizards player.
Those sources said they couldn't pinpoint what led McHenry to throw the drink but described it as part of a larger dispute. They claimed objects were thrown at her as well and accused the group of hurling sexist remarks meant to provoke her.
McHenry's camp also disputed that she was ejected. According to her associates, she chose to leave her seat and head to the bar, while her companion stayed for the rest of the game and joined her afterward.
McHenry built her profile as an ESPN correspondent before moving on to a commentator role at Fox Nation and then joining the State Department under President Donald Trump.
It is not the first time a public outburst has put her in the headlines. In 2015, ESPN suspended her for a week after video surfaced of her berating an employee at a Virginia towing company.
She later sued Fox News and commentator Tyrus, alleging sexual harassment.
