Conservative Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin observed that Donald Trump's defense of his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in the face of mounting sexual assault allegations is part of a larger pattern of abuse on the part of the president.
"This will not end, even if he gets on the court because we have had no vetting of all of these allegations," Rubin, an MSNBC analyst, noted during a panel on "Deadline: White House" with host Nicolle Wallace.
"There may be other women," she added. "There may be more people who come forward. And what do we do then? Do we embark on an impeachment of a sitting Supreme Court justice? There is no way that Kavanaugh wins with questions still pending, with controversy still out there."
Rubin noted that Republicans are treating the Kavanaugh allegations "like just another political game."
Later in the segment, the conservative columnist connected the Kavanaugh allegations to the man who nominated him.
"This guy reminds you of your abusive ex-husband," she said of Trump. "He's a bully, he lies. He makes your life miserable. You feel the contempt from him. He makes you feel like a nonperson — that's what American women see when they look at this man."
Trump let down those women, Rubin suggested, first with his defense of failed GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore in the face of several accusations from women who said they "dated" him when they were teens and he was in his thirties and now with his backing of Kavanaugh.
