Defensive Trump says he still wants to win: 'I don’t care about the brand, I care about the country'

Donald Trump has seemed distracted lately from his campaign, which appears to be hurting his family's brand name.

The Republican presidential nominee hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday at his new hotel in Washington, D.C., despite falling behind in the polls -- as bookings plunge at Trump hotels and women eschew his daughter's clothing brand.

Despite all that, the Trump family told ABC News that business could hardly be better.

"I think we have the hottest brand in the world right now, and I think buildings like this are a testament to what we do every day," Eric Trump said.

Residents of Trump Place in New York are signing a petition to have the GOP presidential nominee's name taken of their apartment building, and a new Trump-owned hotel chain will bear the name Scion, rather than his own surname.

"I think the brand is much more than New York City," said Donald Trump Jr. "This is a global brand. I mean, when you look at the people that he's touching. The presidency, the fixing of America, is so much bigger."

Trump also struck a positive tone, although he defensively denied that his business success mattered as much to him as his patriotic duty to "make America great again."

"I think the brand is hotter than it's ever been, but it doesn't matter to me," Trump said. "I don't care, it doesn't matter. I don't care about the brand, I care about the country."
