DOJ inspector general will probe whether staff attempted to overthrow the 2020 election

Over the weekend it was reported that President Donald Trump pressured the Justice Department to overturn the 2020 election so that he could maintain power. On Friday, the New York Times revealed that Trump even attempted to remove acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen after William Barr left, so that he could put in place someone to keep him in power.

By Monday, the Justice Department announced that the Office of the Inspector General will look into whether anything improper occurred during those tumultuous weeks under Rosen.

"The DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is initiating an investigation into whether any former or current DOJ official engaged in an improper attempt to have the DOJ seek to alter the outcome of the 2020 Presidential Election," a statement from Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced.
