A former Trump administration insider on Saturday signaled that a cabinet member facing a rash of controversies could be on his way out.
Miles Taylor, who served as Homeland Security Chief of Staff in the first Trump administration and is now a prominent critic of President Donald Trump, told MS NOW anchor Alex Witt that FBI Director Kash Patel's job could be coming to an end — and suggested it could be soon. He cited reports of Patel's alleged alcohol consumption as something that Trump could ultimately see as reason to dismiss him.
"I think it'sremarkable that he's made itthis far, genuinely," Taylor said. "And ifthere's one thing that thepresident doesn't tolerate,it's excessive drinking."
Patel has not been the only Trump administration official facing claims of alcohol abuse, or other reported scandals, he added. But the circumstances could look different to Trump.
"Now,we could talk about theirony behind that, given manyof the other extreme actionsthis administration has taken," Taylor said. "And so a lot of folks havespeculated that these drinkingclaims about Kash Patel wouldput him in a difficultsituation. Also recall Kash Patel, you know, binge drinkinga beer in the locker room, youknow, with, you know, Olympians. And that news coverage was alsoyeah, people reported that thatwas frustrating to thepresident. I think it'sremarkable he's hung on thislong. There was, of course, reporting that the presidentwas close to replacing Patel. Iwould be very surprised if hemakes it through the summer."
