Trump-loving sheriff vows to present ‘proof of statewide election fraud' at Thursday press conference
A Trump-loving Republican sheriff in Wisconsin announced Wednesday that he plans to present "proof of state-wide election law violations" at a news conference on Thursday.
"Members of the media and the press are invited to attend a news conference where Sheriff Christopher Schmaling will unveil the results of an extensive investigation with implications throughout Racine County and Wisconsin," the Racine County Sheriff's Department wrote on its official Facebook page. "At the conclusion of the presentation, Sheriff Schmaling and the lead investigator will be available to answer questions and provide documentation... The news conference is open to the press/media only. The news conference will also be available on the Sheriff's Facebook page."
The Journal Times newspaper reported Wednesday afternoon that no further details about Schmaling's investigation had been released.
"Recounts and a Republican-ordered audit in Wisconsin confirmed that Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump by a margin of more than 20,000 votes in the 2020 presidential election," the newspaper reported.
Last September, Sheriff Schmaling was keynote speaker at a Republican event co-hosted by Women for Trump.
In May 2020, Schmaling made news when he refused to enforce Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' coronavirus stay-at-home order.
His department's Facebook post on Wednesday generated hundreds of comments and shares.
"He is so trying to become important in the Republican party," one person wrote of Schmaling.
"Is this within the scope of his position?" another commenter wrote. "Like I'm sure there's a million other things the sheriff could put his time into, human trafficking, child abuse, drugs, just to name a few. But an election that is done and has been done!?!? Like it's gonna change the results somehow?"
