Ex-Clinton staffer disgusted by Mueller revelations: ‘I can’t stop thinking of the word cheating’

MSNBC analyst Zerlina Maxwell said she felt cheated by President Donald Trump, who got help from a foreign government in his 2016 campaign against Hillary Clinton.

Maxwell, who served as director of progressive media on the Clinton campaign, said revelations in special counsel Robert Mueller's report showed that Trump benefited from Kremlin efforts to sway the election -- and the president's attorney, Rudy Giuliani, insisted there was nothing wrong with that.

"You cannot read Volume I of the report and come away from any other word other than betrayal," Maxwell told "Morning Joe." "It's a deep betrayal of the country."

She said that the Republican majority in the Senate may make removing the president impossible, but she said Democrats should still consider impeachment.

"Impeachment proceedings or at least hearings that lay all of this out for the American people," Maxwell said, "they're not going to have time to read 448 pages but they may get some of this necessary information from open hearings that go to the heart of the matter."

Maxwell said the president had gained an unfair advantage, and she felt personally cheated.

"You cannot use foreign help to win an election, that's what happened here," she said. "I can't, as a Hillary staffer, stop thinking about the word cheating. That's the word that has been in my mind all weekend. It just doesn't seem fair that you would take help that is not allowed and then win the Electoral College."
