Newsmax was seemingly busted for providing false coverage of President Donald Trump's economic record.
Labor Department data released Friday showed the U.S. economy lost 92,000 jobs in February, nudging the unemployment rate up to 4.4 percent, but "Wake Up America" co-host Sharla McBride was apparently supposed to tell viewers the economy added those jobs.
"Welcome back, so we are back on 'Wake Up America'with some breaking news," McBride said. "As last month's jobsreport was just releasedmoments ago, with theeconomy adding 92,000 jobsin February."
"Actually, welost 92,000 jobs," interjected co-host Rob Finnerty. "That's all right, we lost 92,000 jobs."
"Okay," McBride continued. "So that was wrong in the script. Sorry about that."
The "breaking news" chyron shown onscreen during the exchange underlined the incorrect claim, stating "economy adds 92K jobs in February."
"Those numbers also include a 4.4 percentunemployment rate during avery volatile time for theU.S. economy," Finnerty said. "That's bothnumbers are slightly worsethan analysts expected. Now, of course, the U.S. jobmarket also or stockmarket taking a big plunge. So how long can we expectthe war's harsh economiceffects to last? Let's askour next guest, executive director of UnleashProsperity, Tim Dozier, and financial marketsanalyst and author ofPlanet Ponzi, MitchFeierstein."
