Florida deputy choked teen son unconscious for asking for money to hang out with friends

A Florida sheriff's deputy was arrested on child abuse charges following a violent confrontation with his teenage son over chores.

Sgt. Robert Rahn was charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of child abuse without great harm following the Saturday evening incident at the family's home, reported the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The Volusia County sheriff’s deputy was placed on paid administrative leave after he allegedly put his son into a headlock and caused him to lose consciousness.

The incident report shows the argument started when the deputy's 16-year-old son asked for money to go hang out with friends after picking weeds out of flower beds.

The teen said his 50-year-old father refused, and then shoved him down onto a couch, punched him in the face.

Then Rahn placed the teen into a headlock and covered his mouth and nose, causing the boy to lose consciousness.

The deputy claimed his son had become angry and put his arms around his neck until he couldn't breathe, and Rahn said he punched the teen to break his hold.

Rahn had dried blood on his lower lip and redness around his right cheek, according to investigators.

The teen recorded a video during the incident that shows Rahn approaching his son aggressively, with his right arm drawn back.

No one was shown punching in the video, which cuts out as the teen gags and tells his father he can't breathe.
