GOP fights 'war on women' by blasting McConnell challenger for Woody Allen donation

Republicans continued their efforts to tie Kentucky’s Democratic Senate candidate to Hollywood before her likely face-off against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The Kentucky Republican Party called Monday on Alison Lundergan Grimes to return a $500 donation from filmmaker Woody Allen, who has been embroiled a public dispute over decades-old child molestation claims made by his adopted daughter.

The New York-based Allen contributed the check Sept. 26 to Grimes, who currently serves as Kentucky secretary of state, according to campaign records, reported Politico.

Dylan Farrow renewed her 1993 claims recently in an open letter ultimately published on the New York Times blog for columnist Nick Kristof, a longtime friend of Farrow’s mother and Allen’s ex-wife, and the filmmaker renewed his denials in his own open letter published by the newspaper.

The state’s Republican Party noted that Grimes had also accepted donations from a Democratic state representative who has been accused by multiple women of sexual harassment.

“If she doesn’t return the donations, we can only assume she either condones sexual harassment and disgustingly inappropriate behavior in the workplace, or she’s more concerned with her liberal allies’ campaign cash than the women of Kentucky,” said party spokeswoman Kelsey Cooper in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Grimes declined to comment on the record.

Kentucky’s College Republicans released a cell phone video in September that showed Grimes’ husband picking her up at the Lexington airport.

The elected official immediately pulls out her cell phone and makes a phone call from the back seat of her husband’s SUV, and the conservative group said this revealed her “Hollywood liberal” values.

Grimes appears to be the only candidate Allen has contributed to so far in this election cycle, although he wrote another $500 check Nov. 8 to the liberal super PAC American Bridge 21st Century.
