'Wow': MS NOW hosts cut in to blast JD Vance's 'preposterous' defense of Trump threats
MS NOW's Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski cut into a live press conference to call out Vice President JD Vance's remarks in real time.
The vice president spoke to reporters Monday morning in Switzerland, where he's been engaged in high-stakes talks with Iranian officials, and Vance was asked about President Donald Trump's threats to kill those same Iranian negotiators before they returned home if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed.
"No, they didn't throw awrench in the system," Vance said, when asked about the president's threats. "The thingwith the Iranians, yes, theydid threaten to walk out, or atleast there were social mediathreats that they would walkout. But we were negotiatingwell past 1 in the morningyesterday, so they didn't walkout, and their technical teamis still here in Bürgenstock,working with our technical team,actually, as we speak, though,I imagine maybe some of themare taking a break to watchthis news conference."
"But look,what we told the Iraniansyesterday is when you guysengage in what us millennialsmight call trash talk, youcan't expect the president ofthe United States not torespond and not to correct therecord," Vance continue. "So when they say thingsthat aren't true, the presidentis going to respond to it, I'mgoing to respond to it,Americans are going to respondto it. When they make threatsthat aren't rooted in reality,they have to accept that thepresident of the United Statesis actually going to set therecord straight. That's allthat happens."
"So, yes, therewas a little bit of threatening, there was a little bit ofwhining," the vice president added. "But at the end of theday, the talks continued and wemade great progress."
The "Morning Joe" hosts interrupted to react to Vance's excuses for the president's threats.
"Wow," Brzezinski said.
"While he waits for the nextquestion," Scarborough said, "we will be talking ... about how everystatement from the Trumpadministration is eitherprojection or confession. Thatcertainly was the case on thatlast preposterous answer aboutaccusing the Iranians of, quote,trash talk destroyingcivilizations."
