Trump-loving lawyer asks Jan. 6 jail protesters to go home 'before something bad happens'

Protesters have been gathering outside a District of Columbia jail to show support for the Jan. 6 rioters locked up inside, but an attorney who has represented some of those defendants is asking them to go home.

The demonstrators have held a vigil nearly every night for about a year at a spot they call "Freedom Corner," but defense attorney and outspoken Donald Trump supporter Joseph McBride said they're risking a dangerous confrontation with the counterprotesters they draw to the area, reported The Daily Beast.

“It feels to me like it’s reached its natural conclusion,” McBride told the website in a phone interview. “It’s like, wow, these people have been out there protesting for over a year now,. At some point, the counterprotesters show up, and because it’s close in proximity, and some of the things the counterprotesters say are super-vile, it feels to me that the potential for conflict is now the risk outweighing the reward."

Just last week Micki Witthoeft, the mother of slain rioter Ashli Babbitt and a leading protest organizer, was charged with simple assault and destruction of property after she was recorded on video striking a counterprotester and slamming her megaphone to the ground.

“Micki, in particular, did a hell of a job organizing people with little money, little help — something out of nothing,” McBride said. “She could do a whole lot more good traversing the U.S. than out there on the corner.”

McBride urged them to end the nightly protests "before something bad happens," and he has repeatedly cautioned the jailed defendants to stop calling the demonstrators from jail to double down on their actions during the insurrection.

“I have warned the group and I have warned Jan. 6ers and their families who are incarcerated ad nauseam, to the point where some of these people hate me, not to f*cking do that," McBride said.
