Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe sounded the alarm Thursday on the possibility that MAGA enthusiast Kash Patel could fill the role he once held in Donald Trump’s next administration.
And the idea of Patel in an FBI leadership position didn’t sit right with McCabe, who unloaded a torrent of concerns to CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins on her show, “The Source.”
“No part of the FBI’s mission is safe with Kash Patel in any position of leadership in the FBI and certainly not in the deputy director's job,” McCabe said. “If you enter into that position with nothing more than a desire to disrupt and destroy the organization, there is a lot of damage someone like Kash Patel could do in a position like deputy director at the FBI.”
A senior FBI agent with decades of experience in the bureau typically steps into the role to run the FBI’s day-to-day operations, McCabe noted.

“I can tell you from my own experience, there is no way I could have successfully performed in that role without having spent the first 10 years of my career doing criminal work in the FBI, and the next 10 years doing national security work,” McCabe said. “The scope of authority is enormous.”
While he remained strongly critical of Patel, McCabe on the other hand said Trump’s potential pick of former Michigan Rep. and former Special Agent Mike Rogers to be the next FBI director makes sense.
“I think Mike Rogers fills the bill pretty well,” McCabe said Thursday, adding that the former lawmaker would be “a totally reasonable, logical selection for FBI director.”
Rogers comes with a background with the FBI and understands the organization, McCabe said.
