Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of the former president, performed her legally controversial cover of the late rock star Tom Petty's song at a gathering at Mar-a-Lago on Friday.
Her performance drove instant mockery from commentators on the social media platform X.
"I weep for Tom Petty," wrote actor Mark Hamill.

"Florence Foster Jenkins should take the $180K a year she’s paid to keep Eric away from his father and buy herself a soundproof box of wine to live in," wrote author Tara Dublin.
Commentator Nora Rivers joked that Mar-a-Lago is "like a Geriatric Prom on an endless loop."
"It's all so weird," Lincoln Project strategist Fred Wellman wrote. "All of them are just so stupidly weird."
Paula Poundstone also chimed in, saying, "Lara Trump singing on stage feels like it was granted to her by an evil Make-A-Wish."
