The lawyer for Richard Nixon's disgraced vice president Spiro Agnew went on MSNBC on Friday night to argue that Donald Trump should resign.
Martin London was the lawyer for Agnew, who quit while being investigated for accepting kickbacks from contractors while be was an official in Maryland.
Nothing good is going to happen for Trump at this point, London said, and failing to resign will only prolong and worsen his misery.
"He's going downhill—this is just the beginning," London said. "He's already lost several associates and close friends... when that doorbell rings and the guy says 'I'm from the FBI' let me tell you, it's every man for himself. So, that suggests to me that the longer he waits the worse it's going to get."
London said he thinks they'll go after the Trump Organization next—something that could be prosecuted in New York state court where Trump's pardon power doesn't apply.
London referred to Rudy Giuliani as "Rudy the Clown" and mocked his claims about the Trump Tower with Russian officials. That meeting alone is evidence that the Trumps sought foreign interference in the election.
"I think he's in the soup and I think I know 10 percent of what's going on," London said. "The longer this goes on, the greater the exposure is going to be. The federal; government is very good at this."
In the case of Agnew, he was the one whose life was on the line. But, as London points out, Trump's children face exposure.
London nevertheless said he doubts Trump will do the prudent thing and quit.
"It takes a lot of contemplation, it takes a lot of balancing, it takes a lot of consideration—I don't think he's capable of that," he said.
