White House slams extremist Republicans for tanking U.S. economy outlook

White House officials say "extremism and dysfunction" among House Republicans tanked an important economy outlook rating, reports show.
Moody's announcement Friday that it would lower the U.S. economic outlook ranking from stable to negative spurred outrage among top Biden administration who blamed a looming government shutdown on conservative chaos in the House of Representatives, reports show.
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre dubbed the change “yet another consequence of congressional Republican extremism and dysfunction," according to Reuters.
Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo noted that the U.S, maintained a AAA rating when he challenged the outlook shift.
"The American economy remains strong," Adeyemo said, "and Treasury securities are the world’s preeminent safe and liquid asset.”
Moody's, meanwhile, points to high interest rates and an expanding deficit as the root of the matter.
“In the context of higher interest rates, without effective fiscal policy measures to reduce government spending or increase revenues,” the agency said, according to CNBC. “Moody’s expects that the US’ fiscal deficits will remain very large, significantly weakening debt affordability.”
