More ex-classmates scorn Treasury's Steve Mnuchin and call on him to resign

More of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's former classmates are calling for his resignation in the wake of President Donald Trump and his administration's disastrous handling of the violent melee in Charlottesville, VA that killed one anti-racist protester and injured dozens.

The Hill said Saturday that 200 alumni of New York's exclusive Riverdale Country School have penned a letter urging Mnuchin to step down and calling his conduct "indefensible."

In failing to wholeheartedly denounce the white supremacists, neo-Nazis and KKK supporters who rallied at the Unite the Right march in Charlottesville, the alumni wrote, Trump fumbled his way through multiple opportunities to get it right.

Mnuchin dismissed to controversy that erupted as a "distraction" and said that he intends to stand by the president.

“We are horrified by his lack of moral leadership. And by yours," the open letter said.

It continued, “Steven, like you, we are Riverdale alumni. We all grew up in one of the most culturally and racially diverse cities in the world. We were fortunate enough to attend a school that taught us about equity, social justice, and the importance of doing the right thing. How is it that you have moved so far away from the values that we shared as students together?”

In August, 300 of Mnuchin's graduation year classmates at Yale University signed an open letter imploring him to step down from the Trump administration.

“We know you are better than this, and we are counting on you to do the right thing,” they wrote.

Mnuchin has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of leaving the administration, even after repeated public embarrassments involving his cavalier waste of government resources or his wife's vicious and condescending comments about the poor on the social media platform Instagram.

The embattled Treasury Secretary was denied in his request for a $20,000 per hour jet to use on his honeymoon and is coming under scrutiny for using a government jet to travel to Kentucky's Fort Knox to view the recent solar eclipse.
