PA man accidentally shot, killed by guest of honor at surprise birthday party

A central Pennsylvania man was accidentally shot and killed over the weekend by the guest of honor at a surprise birthday party.

Cody Gorsline was among about a dozen people at the party in Montoursville early Sunday morning to celebrate the birthday of Derek Gair, reported WNEP-TV.

Police said Gair took the 24-year-old Gorsline upstairs about 2 a.m. to show him a handgun, which accidentally fired as he handed the weapon to the victim.

The bullet struck Gorsline in the head, and he died Monday from his injuries.

Police said both men had been drinking at the party.

The case was handed over to Lycoming County prosecutors to determine whether charges will be filed.
