Questions swirl over disturbing video targeting MAGA candidate’s rival: ‘A new low’

Questions are mounting over a mysterious attack video targeting Democratic Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton, with CNN’s Jake Tapper warning that the controversy could leave a lasting stain on Republican rival Vivek Ramaswamy’s political career.

CNN correspondent Lauren Fox reported Tuesday that the video, featuring Acton’s estranged mother urging voters not to support her daughter, has raised troubling questions about its origins.

“We don’t know who made this video,” Fox said, noting the attack also leaves out “the painful and complicated backstory that has existed for Acton and her family.”

According to Fox, the video first surfaced Monday night on the Ohio political blog "The Rooster." But the blog's author said he obtained it from a voter who recorded it during a polling call.

“No one has claimed credit for making the video,” Fox said, adding that Ramaswamy’s allied super PAC denied producing it. The Trump ally’s campaign, however, did not directly address whether it was responsible.

Fox also noted Tuesday that there was “no evidence” the video was airing on television or digitally in Ohio.

Tapper suggested the controversy could follow Ramaswamy long after the election.

“Well, whether or not he wins, this is going to be a section of his obituary, whenever that may be,” Tapper said. “This is the kind of thing that just leaves a stain on somebody’s record.”

“It’s a new low in American politics,” he added.
