‘Get thicker skin’: Republicans brush off Democratic concerns about ‘toxic’ threats

Democratic lawmakers are increasingly worried about the "toxic" work environment at the U.S. Capitol since the Jan. 6 riot, but Republicans are blithely unconcerned.

CNN reported that many Democrats and some Republicans have lamented the state of affairs in the U.S. House, which voted last week to censure Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) for an apparent threat against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), but lawmakers on both sides of the aisle blame leadership from the other party.

"I believe it is a consolidation of power in the speaker's office in the House and an abuse of power by the speaker because she has one-party control," said Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA), "and she is completely shutting down the voices of the minority and hiding behind COVID to accomplish it."

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) blamed Democrats for not moving on past the deadly insurrection.

"People here need to get thicker skin," Roy said. "At some point here, you've got to let some things roll ... people here have got to get thicker skin about representing the people and doing their job and not making everything personal on the floor of the House."
