Veteran political journalist Jim Acosta said Monday that President Donald Trump has revealed a "25th Amendment crisis" on the country's hands as he stumps for Republicans in formerly safe districts.
Acosta joined former Republican lawyer George Conway on the debut episode of his podcast, "Psycho Politics," where the two reacted to some of the comments Trump has made during his recent rallies. They played a clip of the president boasting to a crowd, "I could say the stupidest things, and you would clap."
Acosta argued that comment was important for a couple of reasons. On one hand, it revealed that Trump's mental decline is "staring us in the face," and it's up to the country to decide how to respond to it.
In another sense, the comment is symbolic of a "25th Amendment crisis" crisscrossing the country.
"What do we do with a President of the United States who is unstable and in serious decline? It is just staring us in the face at this point," he said. "And the more he does the rallies, I think the case becomes crystal clear that we have a 25th Amendment crisis on our hands ... This is the guy who is giving Vladimir Putin the store when it comes to Ukraine."
Acosta also said he felt bad for the audience who clap along with Trump as he says his wild bits during these rallies.
"It's almost like they feel sorry for him. Like he's the last kid picked on the football team or something," Acosta said.
