Cheers! Ron DeSantis fundraiser co-hosted by Bud Light parent company lobbyist: invitation
June 22, 2023
Republican presidential candidate and Bud Light basher Ron DeSantis is scheduled to headline a fundraiser Friday hosted by Slater Bayliss, a registered Florida lobbyist for Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch.
The event in Washington, D.C., costs a minimum $1,000 per person to attend and will benefit DeSantis' campaign according to an invitation obtained by Raw Story.
The address listed on the invitation is the D.C. office suite for Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, a major law and lobbying firm that represents more than 250 corporate and special interests in the nation's capital, according to nonprofit research group OpenSecrets.
Bayliss, co-founder of The Advocacy Group at Cardenas Partners, is a power player in Florida politics. Earlier this month, Politico reported that the DeSantis “bud” has been a prominent bundler of campaign donors who gave, at one point, $242,600 to DeSantis campaign efforts.
Neither DeSantis nor Bayliss immediately responded to Raw Story’s request for comment.
DeSantis, the governor of Florida, has recently railed against Bud Light for partnering with transgender social media star Dylan Mulvaney in an April promotion.
Last week, Team DeSantis tweeted a video of the candidate serving as a bartender in Reno, Nev., and telling people, “I’ll serve you anything but Bud Light.”

A super PAC that supports DeSantis for president produced an ad with the narrator pining for days when “Target and Bud Light didn’t sell extreme liberal agendas and schools taught the ABCs, not CRT” — a reference to “critical race theory”.
In April, DeSantis described Anheuser-Busch as a “woke” company that he couldn’t support.
“Why would you want to drink Bud Light?” DeSantis said. “I mean like honestly, that’s like them rubbing our faces in it, and it’s like these companies that do this, if they never have any response, they are just gonna keep doing it.”
Anheuser-Busch is itself owned by beverage giant ABInBev, which has dozens of beer labels in its portfolio, including Bud Light.
Others include Modela Especial, Michelob Ultra, Stella Artois, Corona, Busch and Beck’s.
