Rudy Giuliani doubles down: ‘I saved a lot more black lives than Black Lives Matter’

Former New York City Mayor and Rudy Giuliani spent his Sunday appearance on "Face the Nation" blaming black Americans for their own plight and claiming that groups like Black Lives Matter are racist.

After fielding heavy criticism on the political shows and online, Giuliani doubled down on his attacks Monday morning on "Fox & Friends."

“It’s inherently racist because it divides us. All lives matter,” Giuliani repeated the sentiment to Steve Doocy. He also reiterated that as mayor of New York he was directly responsible for saving black lives, despite accusations that other departments or police would have instead been the ones responsible.

“I saved more black lives than anyone in the history of the city," Giuliani claimed. "I took over the city with 1,924 murders; I gave it to Mayor Bloomberg with 500-plus murders. 75 percent of the people saved during that time were African-American,” he told "Fox & Friends." “I believe I saved a lot more black lives than Black Lives Matter. I don’t see what Black Lives Matter is doing for blacks other than isolating them. All it cares about is the police shooting of blacks. It doesn’t care about the 90 percent of blacks that are killed by the blacks. That is a simple fact.”

Giuliani also criticized the movement for not marching in cities like Chicago where he says black-on-black crime is “the predominant way a black person is killed.”

“I understand the other side,” he said, claiming he understands the plight African-Americans feel being disproportionately targeted by police as a result of their race. However, Fox News claimed in Monday in multiple segments that the mainstream media only wants to cover it as a race issue. “Black Lives Matter puts a target on the back of police,” said Giuliani.

“Don’t tell me I don’t care about black lives!” he continued.

As comedians Larry Wilmore and Felonious Munk explained last year, the chant "black lives matter" is like having a broken leg. "I do not want the doctor telling me, 'All legs should be healed,'" Munk explained. "I want the doctor to fix my leg."
