Southern Baptist leader joins call to boycott Starbucks over holiday cups that aren't 'clearly Christmas'

The former political leader of the Southern Baptist Convention has apparently joined the leftist plot to make Christians look foolish by complaining about Starbucks' holiday cups.

Sarah Palin co-signed her daughter Bristol's conspiracy theory that media liberals were trying "to make Christians look stupid" by promoting an attention-seeking "evangelist's" call to boycott the coffeehouse chain because its holiday-themed cups were insufficiently deferential to Christians.

Richard Land, head of the Southern Evangelical Seminary, appeared Wednesday on Newsmax TV, where he complained about the cups, reported Right Wing Watch.

He agreed with host J.D. Hayworth, a former Arizona congressman, that Christians should "get the feeling that Starbucks is waging a war on Christmas.”

“Well, for Christians it should be, and it certainly will impact my patronage of Starbucks," Land said. "You know, I’d probably have a chance to let them know, ‘By the way, I would have bought some coffee today if you had had a cup with Christmas ornaments on it or if you had a cup that was clearly Christmas, but I’m not, so that’s money you’ve lost.”

For the record, Bristol Palin said she would not buy coffee from Starbucks, either.
